Write a repo skill from a failed run
The tests in this repo fail until you know two setup quirks. Devin works them out while adding a feature, then writes them into a skill file so later sessions set the repo up correctly.
Steps
- Enter your GitHub user or org. The links and the prompt on this page use it.
- Create your own copy of the starter repo. Open GitHub's new-repository page for devin-demo-self-improving-skill, choose your account as the owner, keep the name
devin-demo-self-improving-skill, and click Create repository. - Make sure Devin can access the new repo under Settings → Connections → GitHub.
- Start a session at app.devin.ai and paste the prompt below.
Prompt
Add a "weekly_revenue" report to https://github.com/<you>/devin-demo-self-improving-skill, mirroring daily_revenue (same column schema pipeline, snapshot test, CLI flag).
This repo has a couple of non-obvious quirks that trip up newcomers (generated code and how tests depend on the environment). When you hit them, don't just work around them: once you've solved it, write a repo skill at .agents/skills/acme-reports-dev/SKILL.md capturing exactly how to set up, run, and test this repo correctly, so the next session gets it right the first time. Open a PR with the feature, the green test run, and the skill. What to watch
- The tests fail on the first run. That is expected.
- It writes the fix down as a skill rather than only working around it.
You're done when
- The PR has the feature, a green test run, and
.agents/skills/acme-reports-dev/SKILL.md.
Go further
Merge the PR, start a fresh session with a similar task, and watch it follow the skill.
